We recognize that a long history of racism and violence has caused hurt and outrage throughout our nation. The senseless losses of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd have ignited a long overdue call to action. Racism, intolerance, and hatred have no place in this country and within deaf sports. We stand in solidarity with the Black community and the Black Deaf community.
As leaders in the sports community, we are guided by our love for sports. Yet, we cannot deny, nor do we shy from the fact that systemic racism continues to challenge our freedoms and the well-being of our communities. We must commit to having honest and uncomfortable conversations. We cannot advocate for equity or social change through sports without taking direct and collective actions to dismantle racist structures.
The true work lies in what we do, going forward, utilizing our love for sports and humanity.
We have work to do.
