A COVID-19 update from USADSF Executive Director, Jim Crane

Translation:

There have been a large number of postponements recently and today we want to make sure you are aware of any events that may affect you. First, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has now been scheduled from 23 July until 8 August 2021.

Now, related to national deaf sports teams, you may ask what is happening with our 2020 International Deaf Games? Recently we sent out an email to all of our subscribers with an update on international games. If you are not a subscriber, you can enter your email here.  Additionally, the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) continues to monitor the situation of COVID-19 on our upcoming World Championships events.  There are updates about the World Championships posted in ICSD news, using this link: http://www.ciss.org/news

ICSD continues to work with the organizing committees of the sports events, and ICSD will provide any latest updates to all ICSD members in advance, ensuring that all National Deaf Sports Federations and Deaf Athletes remain safe and healthy.

In the meantime, we strongly encourage our athletes to continue to train for upcoming World Championship events and 2021 Summer Deaflympics, as long as you follow safety guidelines which means staying home;  continuously maintaining safe 6 feet distance from others while in training (cardio/endurance/fitness) and maintaining safe hygiene practices- hand washing for 20 seconds. You can find more information on the

CDC coronavirus website.  Additionally you can read a very informative summary of COVID-19 provided by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.

Lastly, USADSF 75th Anniversary was scheduled to coincide with DeafNation World Expo (DNWE) this summer.  However, due to the postponement of DNWE, our 75th anniversary event has been postponed. More information on our 75th anniversary celebration will be forthcoming.  DNWE has set a new date of 11 July - 15 July, 2021. You can find more information here.

Our number one priority, as Americans, needs to be health and safety and the containment of this virus. We are encouraging athletes to put their safety and the safety of the people in their community first. It’s important for us to do everything we can to prevent the continued spread of this virus and to keep ourselves safe.
